TEAM EUREKA: Wireless HOme Assistant (WHOA)

An integral component of mobility is control on-the-go, something which has given us great technologies like Wi-Fi, GPS, 3G and Cloud Computing. With this concept in mind, we present our dream product of the future, the Wireless HOme Assistant (WHOA). A few basic components of the WHOA:


• LCD touch screen with 3D capabilities
• High-resolution cognitive camera with dimensional measurement capabilities
• High-speed mobile internet connection with LTE (4G) capabilities
• Database with large storage capacity that can understand and interpret your preferences


The WHOA is basically your hi-tech personalised assistant. It can understand you and your preferences or needs and uses that understanding to boost your convenience, productivity and mobility. It can connect to and communicate with various components of your home, revolutionising the way you work and play. Some of the amazing features of the WHOA:


• Almost as if you’re there! WHOA can:
  o Determine the estimated time to reach home and, familiar with your habits, prepare a hot water bath for your relaxation
  o Remotely program the recording of your favourite TV shows in your absence. You’ll never have to worry about missing the 9:30PM News when you’re stuck in a traffic jam!
  o Direct different sets of incoming calls depending on your location and activity
      > Only family calls while driving
      > Only important office calls during family holidays
      > Other calls diverted to voicemail can be responded to at your own convenience
  o Automatically toggle TV shows between screens in different rooms based on your location (e.g. bathroom, kitchen, living room etc). Now, you can watch the recorded news while sitting in your preset hot water bath!
  o Direct communication to any supporting hardware medium
      > Phone call / Email notifications on TV, computer or phone, depending on which you are using


• Seeing beyond reality! Camera can:
  o Detect, measure and record all dimensions of the subject of an image
  o Embed dimensionally accurate images of your house in the house-plan and store them on the WHOA
       > Tap on any part of the top view of the house-plan to zoom in and feel like you’re standing right there (just like Google Street View)
       > When shopping, insert dimensionally accurate images of furniture, appliances, drapery or wallpapers to see what they would look like before buying them
  o Store dimensionally accurate images of yourself on the WHOA
       > See whether or not clothes will fit you and what they will look like on you before buying them (It’s like a virtual fitting room)
  o Scan barcodes and store product related details on the WHOA
       > Notifications for food expiry and excess purchases


Note: Most of these features can only be executed with the right supporting hardware. The WHOA can only govern other hardware remotely, not add software to it.
